Purpose
As an Estimator, you will be responsible for accurately estimating the costs of projects within the facilities management sector. Your expertise in cost estimation, analysing project requirements, and understanding industry standards will play a vital role in helping us deliver competitive bids and successful project outcomes. You will collaborate closely with project teams, clients, and subcontractors to ensure accurate cost projections and maximize profitability.
  
Main Duties
Cost Estimation:

  • Conduct detailed analysis of project specifications, drawings, and other relevant documents to determine accurate cost estimates.
  • Prepare comprehensive and competitive estimates for materials, labour, equipment, and other project-related expenses.
  • Manage the flow of all internal enquiries and respond as appropriate.
  • Adjudication of all estimates and reviewing all estimates produced by others.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather necessary information for cost estimation.
  • Evaluate and compare multiple supplier and subcontractor quotations to ensure cost competitiveness.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry pricing trends, market conditions, and cost factors.

Quantity Take-Offs:

  • Perform accurate quantity take-offs from project documents, including drawings and specifications.
  • Identify and quantify the materials, labour, and resources required for each project.
  • Utilise industry-standard software and tools to facilitate precise quantity take-offs. Cost Analysis and Value Engineering:
  • Conduct cost analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering possibilities.
  • Collaborate with project teams to explore alternative materials, methods, or designs that enhance project value and reduce costs.
  • Provide recommendations for cost optimization, without compromising quality and contractual obligations.

Bid Preparation:

  • Prepare comprehensive and competitive bids, considering project requirements, cost estimates, and contract terms.
  • Collaborate with the commercial team to ensure bid proposals align with client expectations and company objectives.
  • Participate in bid meetings, site visits, and pre-bid conferences as required.
  • Review and assess bid documents and contract terms to identify potential risks or ambiguities.

Stakeholder Communication:

  • Collaborate with project managers, clients, and subcontractors to gather project specific information and clarify requirements.
  • Communicate cost estimates, assumptions, and methodologies to stakeholders, ensuring transparency and accuracy.
  • Address client queries related to cost estimates, pricing, and value engineering options. Company Responsibilities

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Proven experience (3+ years) as an Estimator within the Facilities Management industry, preferably with exposure to commercial and MOD contracts – familiarity with MOD procurement processes and contract frameworks is advantageous.
  • Proficient in using industry-standard estimation software and tools.
  • Familiarity with construction contracts, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple estimates concurrently.
