Industrial Relations Manager sought, Hinkley. Girling Jones require a Relations Manager to join the Mechanical, Electrical and HVAC alliance working on Hinkley Point C, a new build nuclear facility in the South West of the UK. The key purpose of the role is to maintain a positive culture of employee relations across the MEH project and minimise industrial disputes as far as practicable, through proactive consultation with the recognised trade unions,

Hinkley Point ‘C’ (HPC) is a vital part of the UK’s future energy strategy. As the first of the UK’s next generation of Nuclear power stations, HPC is both of high profile and high complexity. Its successful delivery will be reliant, not only on innovative engineering and construction, but also on the ability of the whole HPC team to work collaboratively and efficiently towards one shared milestone – Commercial Operation. NG Bailey are proud to be working as part of a Joint Venture on this exciting project.

The main duties will include:

  • Manage the MEH IR strategy and policies
  • Take the lead for MEH in external discussions on the implementation and spirit and intent of the sector agreements and social covenant
  • Ensure MEH complies with all the relevant employment regulations
  • Liaise with the client Employment Affairs Unit on a regular basis
  • Manage the provision of IR related info the client team as required
  • Facilitate effective engagement and liaison with delivery partners and trade unions on all workforce issues
  • Lead and foster a positive Nuclear Safety Culture
  • Role model safety behaviours and act as an ambassador for MEH on site


  • A Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • Relevant Professional Qualification – preferably CIPD Qualified
  • Significant Industrial Relations experience in a management role working in an industrial unionised environment.
  • Proven track record in large scale projects in the nuclear or similar regulated sector, including major EPC projects
  • Strong leader, experienced with dealing with a breadth of IR issues, liaising with trade union officials at all levels with a positive, “can do” mentality and the ability to reach sensible compromise positions
  • Politically aware – understands the multi stakeholder context in which the role operates and manifests a collaborative approach
  • Good client/external body facing experience with excellent working knowledge of the relevant training and funding organisations


  • Competitive salary of circa £70,000 – £80,000 per annum
