Girling Jones are seeking a Senior/Principal Consultant with experience in 1D and 1D-2D hydraulic modelling in flood risk to join our friendly, multi-disciplinary team working flexibly from our Cheltenham or Bristol office and from home.

Within your role you will:
- Undertake and manage the building and running of hydraulic models using computer software packages including Flood Modeller Pro and TUFLOW.
- Prepare and review technical reports such as Flood Risk Modelling Technical Notes, Flood Risk Assessments, Flood Consequence Assessments and Evacuation Statements to support planning applications.
- Provide technical advice to the team and on the job mentoring to junior staff regarding the use and application of flood modelling computer software.
- Manage small to large company projects throughout the UK, providing flood risk consultancy and pre-planning services to successfully support planning applications for schemes ranging from small bespoke developments to large multi-disciplinary projects.
- Provide support to Associates regarding the financial management of projects.
- Assist with the day-to-day management of a sub team of engineers, responsible for resourcing and signing off timesheets.
- Prepare and manage fee proposals, bids and tenders for new work.
- Actively carry out business development for the company.
- Liaise with colleagues, stakeholders, external project team members and clients.
- Undertake site visits.
This position would suit someone who has skills and experience in the following areas:
- Degree level qualification in hydrology, geography, mathematics, civil engineering, or other related discipline
- Hydrological analysis using Flood Estimation Handbook techniques and associated software packages, including ReFH2 and WINFAP.
- Hydraulic modelling in 1D/2D software packages including Flood Modeller Pro (ISIS) and TUFLOW.
- GIS and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Undertaking technical reviews of hydraulic models produced by others
- Flood Risk Assessments and knowledge of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).
- Providing solutions to technical problems and input to provide factual and interpretative reports.
- The ability to plan and monitor own workloads to achieve project demands.
- The ability to mentor, encourage and support team members.
- Providing proactive input in departmental initiatives.
- Effectively communicating and co-operating with a project team to support the achievement of a project brief through the provision of efficient and professional services.
- Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with colleagues throughout the Company, clients and suppliers.
- Skills and knowledge in drainage strategy and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) is desirable.
