Girling Jones are Seeking a Branch Manager in Plymouth to work for a well-established business who specialise from Painting & Decorating contracts to planned works within social housing, Education, Health Care, local authority and commercial sectors.

The job role for the Branch Manager would include

  • Manage the local team and resolve personnel issues with the assistance of the national team
  • Ensure compliance with group process
  • Develop the local team to ensure compliance and to meet the future needs of the business
  • Develop and grow the local business in line with the company objectives and strategy
  • Promote the values of Bell at all opportunities

Specific Duties as a Branch Manager would include

  • Ensure a safe working environment for employees and safe systems are adhered to
  • Work with the training team to ensure a well functioning programme of manditory and development training is carried amongst your teams.
  • Positively endorse the H&S culture and values.
  • Maintaining close liaison with our H&S team on performance and audit results
  • Co-operate openly with any accident/incident investigations and report any accidents/incidents within 24 hours.
  • Respond in a timely manner to any branch or site non-compliance.
  • Ensure employees are competent to undertake all the workplace activities for which they are deployed.
  • Carry out periodic inspections to determine levels of compliance with said provisions
  • Ensure a nominated person and a backup person are engaged to establish suitable. emergency measures and evacuation procedures and maintain office fire safety protocols.
  • Understand local customers’ needs to maximise relationships and develop further works.
  • Take the lead on multi branch contracts where the geography or skill set of the branch is best placed to meet the client’s needs.
  • Maintain capability/capacity to deliver to meet customers’ needs.
  • Lead and motivate operational, commercial and support staff
  • Review resources and ensure they are effectively allocated to meet programmes
  • Lead recruitment, induction, performance management and development of: o Operations management/supervision staff o Commercial staff o Office management and administration staff
  • Guidance and assistance with day-to-day management of CEC’s and Sales staff
  • Ensure effective and efficient mobilisation of new contracts takes place including targets at detail and summary levels, from operative to contract manager
  • Develop a subcontract supply chain to support contract delivery
  • Ensure effective site reporting takes place and constructive Branch meetings are held
  • Ensure work is delivered to achieve budgeted gross margin
  • Complete a monthly contract portfolio report for review
  • Report to the commercial team on queries around the portfolio.
  • Report financial and non-financial performance of Branches monthly
  • Monitor cost allocations within the Branch to ensure correct control measures are in place and cost are alloacted correctly and in a timely fashion
  • Manage invoicing disciplines within the Branch to achieve company debtor day targets
  • Regularly check and audit purchases, timesheets to deter fraudulent practices and control valuation of WIP to avoid over valuation
  • Propose and deliver annual forecast in conjunction with the Business Development Team
  • Work with Business Development Manager to identify and develop new business opportunities, contribute to pre-tender submissions, review tender pricing levels and deliver supporting documents and presentations
  • Make resource available to assist commercial team with compilation of tenders, contribute to pre-tender submissions and deliver supporting documents & presentations as required
  • Attend and contribute at Regional Management Meetings & National Meetings
  • Share good working practice amongst fellow Branch Managers
  • Proactively ensure that employees remain motivated and engaged with the business
  • Conform to the bid strategy, in particular: New clients, Existing Clients

Qualifications required & Personal Attributes

  • Professional industry Standard or equivalent
  • CMI L5 Certificate Management & Leadership
  • Pitman Excel – Advanced Users
  • CSCS card – Manager / Professionally qualified person
  • Completion of iHASCO defined mandatory training modules
