Building Surveyor – Exeter

I’m looking to procure a Building Surveyor on behalf of a consultancy based in their Exeter office. They are a national, award-winning property consultancy delivering high profile, inspiring developments to a range of public and private sector clients across the UK. They offer local delivery supported by national capability, with client services managed and delivered from our network of offices by our technically qualified staff.

They are looking to recruit a new Building Surveyor to carry out asset condition surveys. Having secured the renewal of our Joint Venture contract with their primary client, Devon County Council, and rapidly becoming the ‘go to’ consultant for many Academy Trusts and other clients, we have a strong forward order book for cyclical building fabric condition surveys.

They adopt modern working practices. Have a refreshed and modern open plan office on the outskirts of Exeter with very good access off the M5 corridor making for an easy commute. Equally they employ an agile and flexible working strategy allowing staff to work some days at home and flex their working patterns to accommodate such things as your children’s sports days!

The Role:

Asset condition surveys are becoming an ever increasingly important source of data for our clients. They not only help to inform Planned Preventative Maintenance Programmes but they are also often used by clients to draw down essential funding from Central Government to finance much needed repairs, maintenance and improvements.

The type and range of property to be surveyed is varied and includes corporate buildings, highway depots, schools, libraries, let tenanted farms, etc.

  • Leading quality assurance across projects and services, ensuring client needs are met and relevant legislation is adhered to
  • Preparing and undertaking specifications, drawings and risk assessments for a number of new build and refurbishments projects
  • Carrying out site surveys in relation to condition, undertaking schedules of condition, dilapidations, measured surveys and defect analysis
  • Collating and presenting findings to internal and external stakeholders, offering solutions and recommendations where required

  • Experience in building fabric stock condition surveying and ideally experience of using the Department for education Condition Data Collection grading system, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of the Building Regulations, Health & Safety and other relevant construction and building surveying related legislation
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage and negotiate with all levels of internal and external parties.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal support or within a large multi-disciplinary team

This position is being offered on a full time, permanent contract working 37hours per week, Monday to Friday.

What’s in it for you?

  • Competitive Salary.
  • 5% match contribution pension scheme
  • 26 Days Annual Leave, plus 8 Bank Holidays
  • A flexible benefit package that includes life assurance, BUPA health cash plan and relevant annual membership support
